Call for Volunteers

New Extended Deadline:  Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

DJIM is looking for some enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join the 2012/2013 DJIM Executive! Most positions are for two years and are a great opportunity to develop a wide-range of skills. Positions are open to graduate students in the Faculty of Management.

We’re looking for one Co-chair, one Editorial Co-chair, one Technical Co-chair, and one Communications Co-chair. There are also non-Executive positions available, as we are looking for three to five Section Editors. Each of the positions is described below.

DJIM Co-chair (one first-year student)

The Co-chairs are responsible for coordinating the operations of the Journal to facilitate regular publication. The Co-chairs do this by:

  • Acting as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the Dalhousie community
  • Organizing and facilitating Executive meetings, and creating and distributing meeting agendas
  • Coordinating DJIM’s finances as needed
  • Organizing DJIM events and workshops
  • Assisting other Executive members as required to ensure the continuance of DJIM, the smooth running of events, and the timely meeting of publication deadlines

 Technical Co-chair (one first-year student)

The Technical Co-chairs advise on technical issues relating to electronic publishing and act as DJIM Webmasters. The Technical Co-chairs do this by:

  • Maintaining the DJIM website and making updates in a timely manner
  • Modifying the website design to integrate new site elements and technologies as required
  • Completing layout and other requirements for the publication of DJIM articles
  • Acting as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the Dalhousie community to resolve technical issues
  • Assisting other Executive members as required to ensure the continuance of DJIM

Editorial Co-chair (one first-year student)

The Editorial Co-chairs co‐ordinate the editorial activities of DJIM. The Editorial Co-chairs do this by:

  • Creating a timeline for publication
  • Acting as a liaison between Committee members and the Editorial Board
  • Coordinating peer-reviewing and copyediting activities
  • Acting as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the Dalhousie community to resolve editorial issues
  • Assisting other Executive members as required to ensure the continuance of DJIM

Communications Co-chair (one first-year student)

The Communications Co-chairs publicize and promote the activities of DJIM within the Faculty of Management and online by:

  • Recording, distributing, and archiving Executive Committee meeting minutes
  • Recruiting School Liaisons and coordinating communication between the Executive Committee and the Schools within the Faculty of Management to ensure interdisciplinary involvement
  • Acting as a liaison between the Executive Committee and potential contributors and readers
  • Posting to relevant social media sites
  • Responding to email inquiries on behalf of DJIM and maintaining the DJIM email account
  • Acting as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the Faculty of Management community to resolve communications issues
  • Assisting other Executive members as required to ensure the continuance of DJIM

Section Editors (three to five first- or second-year students)

Section Editors are non-Executive members that work with the Editorial Co-chairs to help manage volunteers and the submissions received by DJIM. They act as a liaison between authors and peer-reviewer and copyeditors. Preference will be given to those that have prior experience with DJIM or publishing in another context.
